Battlefield Line Diesel Gala
25th April 2009 to 26th April 2009

A **FIRST EVER** trip to the Battlefield Railway in Leicestershire for their Spring Diesel Gala which featured a host of traction including 31101, 31130, 33019, 37227, 37905, 47640, 56098 and D5217

**BRIEF HISTORY**

The Battlefield Line is what remains of the former Nuneaton and Ashby Joint Railway from Nuneaton Abbey Junction to Ashby De La Zouche in Leicestershire. The line opened in 1873, passenger traffic didn't live up to expectations and local passenger traffic ceased in April 1931 although the line was still used for freight and occasional long distance and charter traffic. The line was closed by British Rail in 1971 and was kept as a long siding to store condemned rolling stock. The track was finally lifted in 1976
